Jane Corkin has what is arguably the most striking photography gallery in the city. The Shim Sutcliffe- designed space in the Distillery is divided into spacious galleries and intimate rooms. Admittedly, a large portion of the square metreage is given over to architectural detail rather than hanging space, but the overall cavernous effect is impressive. It's more like walking into a grand lobby than a commercial gallery, and most of the art shown here can handle the challenge: the politically charged tableaux of Wang Qingsong's photographs or New York's nightlife, as documented by Nan Goldin, are some of the contemporary highlights. The gallery also shows historical photography by such giants as Eugene Atget and Andre Kertesz.
