Katharine Mulherin Contemporary Art Projects

It’s hard to believe dealer Katharine Mulherin is celebrating her 10th anniversary on the Queen West strip. She first opened BUSGallery in 1998, only to have it multiply into three distinct spaces in order to make room for her growing stable of artists. While her main gallery is located at 1086 Queen West, she has since whittled her franchise down to two spaces; the second one is at 1080 Queen Street West, where you’ll find an energetic mix of emerging talent alongside established artists, such as Eliza Griffith and Holly Dzama. Mulherin’s taste runs toward art with craft-like qualities, including drawings scratched onto the surfaces of rusted bits of metal. But her choices have a sophistication that doesn’t look or feel remotely quaint. She celebrates her 10-year run with Decade, a show of one work by every artist she has ever shown (total: 600), from Sept 18 to Oct 18, 2008.
