COMMON ELEVATION

On Sterling Road, a new exhibition transforms ordinary into extraordinary
Opened this summer, Everything Gallery offers high-quality contemporary art—plus a side of coffee—in the heart of the Junction Triangle. Created by the owners of Coffee by JOY—a sophisticated cafe with a palpable design edge—the new gallery space is only accessible through the shop itself, but opens up into a minimalist interior featuring carefully installed artworks.
On now until November 18th, the current exhibition features works from Korean artist Jeremy Do Hyun Joo, founder of Toronto-based design studio JDH Projects. Dubbed Common Elevation, the show was inspired by elevating everyday objects, celebrating the hands who crafted them and the lives lead within and around them. Tapping into forms found in parts of Asia and Africa, as well as a rich palette of natural materials, Joo’s collection includes a Tatami platform made of ebonized ash, rice straw and cotton, a custom tea platform in black cherry and incense burners made of wood and raw iron.
The show also features: florals from Floret, Satoshi Yoshikawa ceramics and tea curation by Studio Mika Fleur. Tea sessions will take place November 11th to 18th.
