SOREL ETROG – Motifs and Variations

James Rottman Fine Art presents a retrospective of select works by acclaimed Romanian Jewish Canadian artist Sorel Etrog
Established in 1995, James Rottman Fine Art is a leading Toronto gallery specializing in Canadian Post-War and contemporary art. Motifs and Variations – select works from the 1950s to 1980s showcases Sorel Etrog’s lasting impact on modern sculpture and visual thought, reaffirming his place in Canada’s cultural and artistic legacy.
Featuring sketches, watercolours, paintings and sculpture, the exhibition explores Etrog’s evolution from wartime realism to his signature fusion of organic and mechanical forms. Influenced by existentialist philosophy, his work dissects the human condition through hybridized figures that reflect the tension of body, mind and machine.
