4 Stylish Salons to Tackle Tresses

By Kathleen Yamazaki

Grateful Head
Where: 231 Roncesvalles Ave 416 915 4323 The Scoop: At its new location – where staff moonlight as musicians and artists – GH’s beautifully brooding interior is defined by worn concrete walls, abstract skull-patterned wallpaper and gothic furnishings. Find a punch of punk in the washroom: a baroque mirror hangs above a pink marble-topped counter that’s set against a fiery red backsplash. gratefulheadsalon.ca

Day and Night

Where: 1389 Dundas St W 647 351 6483 The Scoop: Chanel Croker’s minimalist-chic hair studio/art gallery/DJ lounge attracts eclectic West Enders seeking avant-garde runway looks. Croker’s upcoming collabo- ration with design firm i-v will morph the interior into a futuristic space, complete with black vinyl floors, graphic-covered walls and, fittingly, a wall made entirely of synthetic hair (in the protruding front window). dayandnightsalon.com

Brixton Parlour

Where: 3302 Yonge St 647 748 7748 The Scoop: For this uptown salon, interior designer David Arduini created a hip space defined by monochromatic hues and raw material finishes. Partially exposed brick and barnboard walls sandwich an extended colour bar – the hub of activity – that’s punctuated by bare-bulb pendants. The earthy palette is a guiding theme: stylists use Kevin Murphy’s all-natural product line. brixtonparlour.com

GOTSTYLE
Where: 62 Bathurst St 416 260 9696 The Scoop: Bet you didn’t know this shopping oasis for men also has an on-site barber. Near the front, an ornate vintage mirror hangs over a rough-hewn washstand where two gents at a time can sit back in old-timey barber’s chairs and nab a cut, colour or shave. Be sure to keep an eye out for the barbershop opening soon inside the Distillery District’s outpost. blog.gotstyle.ca
