Since 2001, designer Melanie Zanker has been running Mazzie, a custom furniture and textile design studio for residential and commercial projects. Zanker will happily create a piece to your specifications, but left to her own devices and the Mazzie style is decidedly offbeat and quirky, usually with a reused-material bent. Her retro-toned Love Seat, for instance – with a Baltic birch ply frame, chrome legs and low-pile carpet and fabric upholstery – appears as though it was built from a mishmash of vintage couches, when in fact it’s made entirely from scratch.
