Miznon is the brainchild of celebrated Israeli chef Eyal Shani. The popular street food restaurant opened more than ten years ago in Tel Aviv and has grown to international acclaim with locations in Paris, Singapore, Vienna, Melbourne, and New York. Miznon’s most recent locale can be found at the corner of Bay Street and Cumberland in Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood, its first location in Canada.

Deep green herringbone ceramic tiles stretch along the bar, complemented by the industrial overhead lighting and hand-plastered walls.

Designed in collaboration with Sansa Interiors, the eatery creatively emulates the flagship restaurant’s laidback style while introducing local isms that make Miznon Toronto a uniquely Canadian experience. “Everything from the benches to the wall finishes were designed and sourced from local Toronto makers,” says Jude Kamal, founder and principal designer of Sansa Interiors. “The fusion of industrial lighting and plastered concrete is “quintessentially Torontonian, while the polished Carrara countertops and shimmering green tile are a nod to Yorkville’s reputation for style and elegance.”

The overall aesthetic stays true to Miznon’s brand identity, incorporating similar tones to their worldwide locations, with a vibrant edge that feels distinct to Toronto.

Working closely with local construction firm Carbon Building Group, Kamal optimized the long and narrow space, resulting in a bright and airy atmosphere that generates a natural flow among customers. The eatery also features a large mural created by Toronto artist Daniel Mazzone. “Eli, the president of Miznon Canada, and Eyal, the general manager, both wanted us to keep a wall bare for this creation,” says Kamal. “They felt it brought in a ‘street art’ feel to the restaurant that ties nicely to Miznon’s origins.”

Miznon has a knack for capturing the flavour, beauty, and essence of each city it calls home and Miznon Toronto is no exception. This local endeavour is a testament to the brand’s sense of place and the creativity of its mindful collaborators.
