5 Top Shops for Finding a Sofa Bed in Toronto

The coziest way to (quite literally) transform your space

By Designlines

We’re sure there are some people in Toronto for whom limited space is not an issue. At the risk of losing readers, this post is not for them. For the rest of you – and we reckon that’s still plenty – we’ve put together a list of our favourite spots to grab a classic, space-saving sofa bed. And let’s be clear: modern sofa beds are not like yesteryear’s backbreaking affairs. These days, they’re genuinely comfortable, convenient as ever and have made great leaps in style, too. Below, we look at some our favourite sofa beds, and some of the top shops in Toronto to find one.

The Sofa Bed Store

The name is kind of on the nose, but the manufacturer-retailer Sofa Bed Store lives up to its billing. Featuring steel and solid wood construction, SBS’s collections are built with durability in mind and, with layered pocket-coil mattresses, a proper night’s sleep as well. There’s plenty of variety on hand, with roomy sectionals, walnut-armed loveseats and everything in between. See our listing here.

Urban Mode

With pragmatic Scandinavian brands like Woud, Muuto and Normann Copenhagen, it should come as no surprise that Urban Mode stocks a collection of eminently practical sofa beds. Danish label Softline is well represented here, as is Scandinavian-by-way-of-Minnesota label Blu Dot, both of whose sofa beds – Softline’s Jason and Blu Dot’s Diplomat, in particular – marry style and overnight comfort. See our listing here.

Palazzetti

Modern Italian furniture, sofa beds included, is plentiful at Palazzetti. You’ll find no end of striking silhouettes, but our current fave is Bonaldo’s Bandy sofa, which marries function with a subtlely asymmetric profile, making for a striking presence in both up and down positions. Casalife

Casalife should be on the short list of shops for anyone in Toronto that’s seeking a contemporary sofa bed that hits the sweet spot between accessible and high-end. Full disclosure: we’re suckers for Canadian-made, so Mobital’s novel ISO sofa bed, which unfolds like a letter, is a favourite. We’d be remiss, though, if we didn’t mention the classic silhouettes from American Leather, too. See our listing here.

Resource Furniture

Sure, plenty of sofas can transform into one bed, but how many can transform into a pair of them? Resource Furniture’s collection includes several novel sofa, murphy and hidden wall-mount beds. Our fave, the Kali Duo, is a little bit of everything, featuring a sofa that stows away beneath fold-out bunk beds, making for a seamless transition between den and kids’ bedroom.
