Designer Luca Campacci of Level Studio transforms a West End home into the perfect party-hosting pad
Designer Luca Campacci knew that for the renovation of Valleyview Residence – a 2,500-square-foot home in Runnymede – he needed to create a space with just as much personality and charm as its owner. “The client is a connoisseur who enjoys travelling, entertaining, has great taste in art, wine, music and also makes a fantastic cocktail,” says Campacci, lead designer and partner at Level Studio. The result is an expansive hosting haven full of bold colour punches and creative expression.
Balancing mid-century modern flair with bold fun, the heart of Valleyview Residence is its living room. Level Studio wanted to centre the space around a custom-made sofa that evokes a retro style, but still feels contemporary. A ’70s-inspired rug ties the look together and enables accents of walnut to pop in contrast. “Replacing an old electric fireplace with a gas one was one of the biggest challenges in the space,” says Campacci. The solution was to install black granite along the length of the feature wall in order to keep elements of the concrete there before it—a request of the client.
Thoughtfully taking into consideration the client’s joy of hosting, Level Studio focused on functionality and versatility to unify Valleyview’s open-concept kitchen, dining room and living rooms respectively.
Colour was a critical component throughout Valleyview. Alongside bold accent walls and colourful furniture, the owner’s large collection of prints, trinkets and knick-knacks were used to add distinction throughout the home. “He [the client] had acquired many of these items through his travels and as gifts from loved ones,” says Campacci. On display, the collection creates a gallery-like effect in the formal dining room.
“During our first meeting at Valleyview, our client said how he always wanted the colourful Eames Hang it All Rack, which we put up in the foyer,” says Campacci. “It’s funny because all the colours on that piece ended up somewhere in his home. It was a great jumping-off point for the entire scheme and we felt that being bolder with colour was the best way to emulate our client’s wonderful personality.”
Valleyview’s secondary bedroom features a combination of bold, masculine statements with soft, playful accents.
Similar to the sofa in the living room, the den centres its colour story around a rug previously owned by the client. Depicting a fruitful tree painted in shades of red and yellow, the space highlights a technique of pulling colours from a visual muse.
With “free rein to be creative and make bold decisions,” Campacci and the Level Studio team transformed Valleyview Residence from an outdated builder block to an inspiring forever home. Adorned in colour, the interiors elegantly and playfully create unique moments to display pieces collected by the owner. LEVEL-STUDIO.COM.
